Saudi Arabia Vs New Zealand

When I was living in Saudi I was very dependant on my family to do things for me, such as giving me money, cooking for me, washing my clothes and providing me with everything I need. I didn’t used to care about the electricity or the telephone bills BUT since I left home I become very independent and I have to do everything by my self which was so difficult at the beginning. Moreover, when I was home I was very social person I used to stay in cafe' for hours and hours with friends and uncles chatting, but since I arrived in New Zealand I started to stay home by myself for along hours, which makes me feel bored a lot of times.

Why am I doing these courses

Well this is along story, I came to New Zealand to study medicine and be a dentist but I had so many difficulties in getting an offer of placement at the University of Otago which was my first destination in New Zealand. However after I gave up from the Dentistry stream I decided to do a bachelor in Commerce. I moved to Christchurch and I enrolled with the University of Canterbury. My older brother Mohammed who has already done his master degree in Commerce has helped a lot with choosing the suitable subjects for me. However I still want to be a dentist.

The Goodbye Party

When I had only nine days left before I leave home and family I started to prepare for my trip to New Zealand by buying clothes, books and dictionaries.
My father told me that’s it is going to be so cold for me and I have to buy some heavy clothes. However my family have organised a big party in the house and everyone was invited to dinner before I left and I had a lot of fun that day except the last scene when I hugged my parents saying goodbye. I continued to the airport with my oldest brother and he was the last one who saw me in the airport.

Why I came to New Zealand

I finished my high school with high grades so studying abroad was the first thing that came to my mind, I went to do the Ministry of high education back in Riyadh and I applied for a scholarship. I wanted to go to the US but my father recommended New Zealand as a first option. I didn’t have any idea about New Zealand before but my father kept telling that ikt’s better than the US and am going to have fun there so I packed my bags went to Dunedin. I couldn’t understand people at the begaining but everything became smother later on. Everyone was happy when I was leaving except my mother who kept crying for a month.
